Job Description
The Production Float is responsible for assisting in all production areas of the McMinnville Creamery. This role will work in HTST, raw milk intake, buttermaking, butter packaging, and dried milk powder production.  This is a safety sensitive role.  Must be able to work 8 or 12 hour shifts, days or nights, including overtime, weekend and holidays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform and record milk laboratory tests to determine if load meets CROPP specifications prior to unloading and loading.
  • Receive and/or load raw and pasteurized milk, including reloading truck to truck transfers.
  • Seal or unseal trucks as appropriate.
  • Operate milk and cream HTST pasteurizer within specified requirements.
  • Perform cream culturing process, as needed, to meet production requirements provided by buttermaker.
  • Wash and sanitize inside tankers after unloading milk utilizing automated CIP system.
  • Operate automated CIP system to clean HTST systems, milk supply lines, pasteurized storage tanks, raw milk silos, milk receiving lines, and pasteurized cream vats/silos.
  • Fill out and file bills of lading and certificates of analysis.
  • Record appropriate data regarding loads out and in.
  • Reviews cream quality and start pump to transfer cream from vats to churn.
  • Operate churn to produce butter of specified grade and quality, and perform quality control tests.
  • Record production, quality and test data on record sheet.
  • Monitor churn to detect possible malfunctions and undesirable results, report issues to supervisor.
  • Removes sample from churn and perform standardized tests for moisture, butterfat, and color content (Butter grading).
  • Sanitize churn, vats, hoses and pumps as needed.
  • Operate case packer equipment.
  • Operate the microfix, butter packaging equipment, and bulk filler, as assigned.
  • Hand pack cases, as needed.
  • Assist with palletizing and shrink wrapping pallets to prepare for shipping.
  • Assist with recording stick weights, start time, down time, pounds produced, and pallets produced.
  • Perform daily assembly, cleaning, swabbing, and sanitizing of butter packager and printer.
  • Assist with the production and packaging dried milk powder.
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly & quarterly sanitation duties in a correct and timely fashion.
  • Follow and comply with applicable good manufacturing, safety and quality assurance policies and practices.
  • Perform tear down and sanitation of butter packager, printer, case packer, microfix, trolley, butter boat, churn, and any other specific butter room equipment to assure equipment and room is sanitary and fully operational prior to start of production.
  • General housekeeping, cleaning, and sanitizing all other areas and equipment.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with general plant cleaning as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to obtain state permits to operate pasteurizer.
  • Knowledge of buttermaking (making and grading) and the ability to obtain and maintain a Buttermakers license required.
  • Ability to obtain certification on the Charm Phosphates Test Method.
  • Must be able to work 12 hour shift, including overtime, weekend and holiday work.
  • Ability to read and comprehend standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment.
  • Ability to frequently lift/carry up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift up to 80 pounds with assistance, ability to push/pull up to 2,500 pounds using material handling equipment.
  • Ability to bend, twist/turn, reach above shoulders, and climb throughout the shift as needed.
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift.
  • Ability to climb truck manways and work at heights with appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and understand results of official samples.
  • Ability to work safely with required sanitation and lab chemicals.
  • Effective collaborative skills; must perform comfortably in group settings.
  • Verbal and written communication skills; ability to follow instructions and to clearly express ideas in a concise and professional manner.
  • Basic math skills including arithmetic and the ability to perform and interpret basic calculations.
  • Understanding of machine operations.
  • Working knowledge of good manufacturing practices.
  • Basic computer skills are required.Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word preferred.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Strong work ethic with history of good attendance.
