Job Description

Leading Manufacturer and Innovator of portable tooling kits are looking for a senior level Design Engineer to join their Production team. This company has been in business for nearly 50 years and is a revolutionary leader in their industry with their commitment to technology and Innovation. Performs various electro-mechanical assembly and test functions to assemble prototype products, build special machines and assemble standard machines. This is a hands-on, industrial position working in a shop environment.
Job Description & Requirements:

  • Responsible for the quality of work and utilizes familiarity with inspection and other quality assurance techniques to inspect work.
  • Assembles all standard products.
  • Analyzes assembly blueprints and specifications manuals, and plans machine building operations.
  • Verifies conformance of parts to pick list and blueprints.
  • Performs assembly and test of mechanical and electro-mechanical products.
  • Aligns components for assembly and bolts, screws, dowels, welds, or rivets parts together.Custom fits as necessary to conform to blueprints and/or customer specifications.
  • Performs various electro mechanical assembly functions such as soldering, assembly of cables and wiring harnesses, re-work of printed circuit boards, and other electrical assembly activities.
  • Works closely with engineering to test products (by hand or mechanically), diagnose, and resolve problems that occur during assembly and repair.
  • Removes high spots, and smoothes surfaces to improve product cosmetics.
  • Uses precision measuring tools to verify alignment and tolerances of moving parts.
  • Assembles, sets up, and operates machine to verify function, machine capabilities, and conformance to customer's specifications.
  • Follows the production schedule and associated work orders and sales orders to determine assembly requirements.
  • Searches for and recommends ways to improve assembly methods and procedures that could potentially lower productions costs and/or improve product quality/reliability.
  • Ability to operate material handling devices such as overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Understands basic Lean principles; follows lean manufacturing systems; participates in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Handles stress in a professional manner, demonstrates the ability to get along with others, demonstrates successful attendance and punctuality, and works overtime / extra hours as required to meet business needs.
  • Other duties as required.
    AA degree and 2-4 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have experience with mechanical assembly and associated tools; must have experience with wiring, soldering, crimping, and interconnects; experience with basic shop functions including pressing, fitting, proper torque of parts.
    Basic knowledge of machining processes, welding processes and control panel wiring is preferred.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  Office and travel have moderate noise levels. Machine/Product demonstrations and customer visits can have loud noise levels.
    Noise levels may be extreme and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and usage is driven by customer requirements. Other required PPE includes, but is not limited to, steel toe boots, hardhat and safety glasses. Customer working environments can be extreme in regards to height, confined space, physical requirements and hazards.
    Compensation and Work Schedule:
  • $14.00-$18.00/hour DOE
