Job Description

The Billing Assistant is primarily responsible for processing mental health reimbursement claims with insurers. This position will work collaboratively with our Bookkeeper and our therapy staff to provide exceptional service to our child clients, their caregivers and support the overall financial well-being of Juliette’s House. Further, the Billing Assistant is a vital member of our financial management team, led by our Bookkeeper and Billing Specialist, who reports to the CEO.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are representative of the responsibilities of this position. These assignments may change as the needs and priorities of the organization evolve.

  • Work in coordination with our Bookkeeper, our therapy staff, and all JH staff
  • Cultivate and manage positive ongoing relationships with mental health clients and families
  • Cultivate and manage positive ongoing relationships with insurers and other key stakeholders
  • Accurately process mental health claims with insurers
  • Engage in appeal processes as necessary
  • Work with the therapist to submit treatment authorizations
  • Work with client caregivers and insurers to verify benefits
  • Provide precise data entry with great attention to detail
  • As needed, greet clients and families, and collect copays and deductibles
  • Completing other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of mental health and medical billing practices, CPT and diagnosis codes
  • Knowledge of claim filing - paper and electronic
  • Knowledge of accounts receivable
  • Knowledge of HIPAA
  • Superb relationship building skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Mastery of MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Knowledge of Medisoft system is desirable, but not required
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including copiers, printers, fax machines and scanners
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, research skills, and ability to follow through
  • Adaptability and openness to alternative solutions and flexibility when interacting with others
  • Capable of handling multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Ability to meet deadlines while anticipating quickly changing needs
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Work both independently and as a collaborative team member
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, a professional demeanor, and to represent the organization in a positive manner at all times
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have ability to perform work that could require sitting, walking, stooping, bending and lifting up to 25 pounds
